Values
Community & Interdependence
The work to dismantle oppressive systems requires us to work in collaboration with each other, which demands that we must build relationships and care webs to maintain sustainability and persistence. Investing in our communities ensures that everyone is able to receive the necessities they need to survive, while building intentional and meaningful relationships facilitates the development of necessary systems and infrastructures that we all need to thrive. Community requires interdependence – we rely on each other to create the conditions in which we can live in and thrive. Being in community contributes to our learning from/with one another, as well as fosters accountability with each other.
Collective Liberation
“None of us are free until all of us are free” – Fanny Lou Hamer
We recognize that our struggles and all systems of oppression are connected, and we are committed to working across movements to dismantle all systems of oppression for the collective liberation of all peoples.
Accountability
Understanding accountability as a relational tool helps us develop intentional and meaningful relationships with each other. When we hold ourselves accountable to our actions and behaviours, we are able to stay connected with our community through moments of tension and conflict. This facilitates the process of generating intimacy and vulnerability in our relationships with one another while staying in integrity with ourselves.
As we are in a continuous journey of (un)learning, and as imperfect human beings wielding power and privilege, we recognize that we will cause harm in this process. Therefore, we are committed to engaging in the repair and learning work needed when harm occurs. We also recognize that our access to power and privilege will shift based on positionalities and contexts in the moment, and as such are also committed to acting with intentionality and mindfulness of how our power and privilege show up and how they’re utilized.
